Teignmouth is known as " The Gem Of the South Devon "
Situated on the Jurassic coast the town grew in popularity as a seaside holiday destination with the advent of rail travel.
Teignmouths Pier and Promenade developed in the 19th Century and has been updated and modernised over the last ten years to provide and attractive holiday destination, the recent additions of Crazy Golf and Tennis Courts complementing the more traditional bowling green and large grass area known as The Den. The Den is host to a range of events throughout the year from Fetes and Fairgrounds to its a knockout and Teignmouths' Got Talent. Most weeks throughout the summer there are events for the whole family to enjoy and participte in.
Teignmouth has numerous pubs cafes and restaurants catering for all tastes and budgets and offering everything from cooked breakfasts to the finest local seafood cooked to perfection, Specific mention has to be made of the al fresco cafes in the triangle where you can sip a good cappucino and watch the world go by and of Decks Beach Bar where you can enjoy fantasic local food, locally produced ciders and beers as well as a great selection of wine with unparallelled views and sunsets.
Teignmouth famous for its gig racing has a Regatta Week usually the first week of August and Shaldon Regatta week is held in the last week in August , both weeks have a range of activities from treasure hunts to raft races and football matches for all the family to enjoy.
Gig racing can be watched from the Promenade and River beaches throughout the Summer usually on Saturday afternoons.
The Village of Shaldon just a few minutes on the Ferry across the Teign has a variety of Pubs Shops and Restaurants and a very quaint village green, in the summer months the ferry runs regularly from 8 am until 9pm
